According to Drishti officials, the docks were procured to construct a floating jetty for the soon-to-be-launched ferry service between Panaji and Vasco. Of the 88 units of docks stored at the beach, 33 units got gutted in the fire at about 5.30 pm, causing loss of ` 33 lakhs, claimed Drishti.
A Vasco fire tender rushed to the site of the mishap and managed to save 55 units of floating docks from getting destroyed in the fire.
In another incident, a flat on the first floor near a hospital at Baina caught fire due to a short circuit, causing a loss of about ` 35,000.
A Vasco fire tender went to the site and switched off the power supply, before extinguishing the fire. Some electrical appliances and furnitures were destroyed in the fire. Fire officials attributed the fire to a short circuit and is investigating the case.
